With the spring season here, many anglers are getting ready to head back into their fishing boats and hit the water. We know you’re probably eager to get to the lake, but you’ll need to prepare your tackle box before you start reeling in any fish. Keep reading to learn what essentials should be in your tackle box. If you want any more tips or you’re looking to buy a new boat for sale, contact JR Motors in Lake Havasu City or Parker, Arizona. We also proudly serve Blythe!

Lures, Bobbers, and Sinkers

These items are all pretty standard for most anglers, so you may already have these in your tackle box. But if you’re new to fishing, it’s helpful to have a good selection of these items on hand.

Lures

Your lures should include top-water lures, spinners, spoons, and minnow imitations since each of these is designed to attract a different kind of fish. Having a variety of lures will make it easy to experiment and see which works best in which circumstances.

Bobbers

Also known as floaters, bobbers and lightweight devices alert you when a fish is on your line. Once the bobber sinks, the fish has bitten. The most common design you’ll see is a round red and white plastic bobber. However these limit how deeply you can cast your line. Slip bobbers are another essential for your tackle box since they slide up and down the line and allow you to get your hook deeper into the water.

Sinkers

When your hook and worm or lure is too light to sink deep into the water, you’ll need to use a sinker. These are easy to lose, so make sure you have some extra in your tackle box. You’ll find sinkers made of steel, bismuth, brass, and tungsten.

Needle-Nose Pliers

This small tool is extremely helpful to have in your tackle box since you can use your pliers to remove hooks from fish, bend wires, or remove embedded objects.

Extra Line

You’ll also want to have some extra fishing line on hand since your line can easily get tangled or break while fishing.

Spare Hooks

Another tackle box essential is spare hooks. You never know what kind of fish you’ll find, so it’s a good idea to have a variety of different hooks with you. This includes J-hooks, French hooks, and different sized hooks.
